The U.S.S. Voyager, an Intrepid class starship, it is the latest class of starship to be commissioned by Starfleet. The new Federation starship is one of the fastest and most powerful in Starfleet, as well as being equipped with the most sophisticated technology to date. Voyager has 15 decks and is 2130 feet long and supports a complement of about 148 crew members and mission specialists. The ship is capable of independent operation for about three years without refueling and can reach speeds up to warp 9.975. Starfleet has incorporated a new leap in computer technology in Voyager in the form of synthetic brain neurons suspended in a nutrient gel medium. Voyager is also the first starship employed by Starfleet that has planetary landing and take-off capabilities. Voyager was built at starfleet's Earth Station McKinley, and was launched and commissioned on stardate 48038.5 (the year 2371).
